Learn about Spanish A2 Topics

CORE Languages follows the CEFR standard for teaching foreign languages. That means we are required to teach specific topics in each level. In order to make learning more manageable, we have broken each level down into 4 short courses.

GEFR Level: Spanish A2.1

CORE Languages offers bite size courses lasting about 10 weeks each. We split A2.1 into two courses to offer flexibility for your scheduling and the option to review specific topics without repeating a much longer course.
  • Level 2-1 is an intermediate conversation class. We take a break from learning new material to focus on practicing the topics covered in all level1 courses through different conversational exercises.
  • Level 2-2 focuses on formal and informal commands, the perfect tense, and the differences between por and para. Much emphasis is placed on speaking in both Levels 2-1 and 2-2 and working out the nuances of expressing oneself in Spanish.

After completing these levels, you’ll be able to:

  • understand and use familiar everyday expressions and very basic phrases aimed at the satisfaction of needs of a concrete type.

  • introduce yourself and others and ask and answer questions about personal details such as where they live, people they know and things they have.

  • interact in a simple way provided the other person talks slowly and clearly and is prepared to help.

CEFR Level: Spanish A2.2

CORE Languages offers bite size courses lasting about 10 weeks each. We split A2.2 into two courses to offer flexibility for your scheduling and the option to review specific topics without repeating a much longer course.
  • Level 2-3 deals with the subjunctive mood, colloquial expressions, passive voice, prepositions and the conditional tense. Again, a strong emphasis is placed on incorporating these tenses into everyday speech.
  • Level 2-4 deals with the past subjunctive and compound tenses such as the past perfect and future perfect. Again, a strong emphasis is placed on incorporating these tenses into everyday speech.

After completing these levels you’ll be able to:

  • understand and use familiar everyday expressions and very basic phrases aimed at the satisfaction of needs of a concrete type.

  • introduce yourself and others and ask and answer questions about personal details such as where they live, people they know and things they have.

  • interact in a simple way provided the other person talks slowly and clearly and is prepared to help.

Aztec Temple at ruins of Tenochtitlan with the Dome of Metropolitan Cathedral - Mexico City, Mexico
Spanish Passive Voice (all tenses)

Spanish passive voice formation is pretty straightforward. All you need is a subject (which is the object in the active sentence), the verb “ser” followed by the past participle of the active verb. Subject + ser + past participle

Some would call them the social generation
Spanish Conditional Tense

The conditional is a structure that we use to express possibility or probability, wishes, excuses, and even suggestions or requests. It can also be used to talk about things we would do, if a certain action happens (ie. hypothetical situations).

Spanish Future Tense

The Simple Future (Futuro simple), is used to describe actions that will happen in the future, without indicating a specific point in time.

Spanish Past Participles

A past participle (participio) is a very useful verb form that can function as an adjective or as part of a perfect tense when used in conjunction with the verb haber. To form the past participle of a regular verb, you drop the infinitive ending (-ar, -er, -ir) and add -ado to the stem of -ar verbs and -ido to the stem of -er and -ir verbs. This is equivalent to adding -ed to many verbs in English.

Hitting a birthday pinata
Spanish Passive Voice (present tense)

In Spanish, the passive is formed in exactly the same way, using the verb ser (meaning to be) and a past participle. When you say who the action is or was done by, you use the preposition por (meaning by).

Wow, that was awesome
Spanish Superlative

Superlatives in Spanish are adjectives that you’ll use to compare three or more things where one is “the most” or “the least” in certain characteristics.

Two beaming ladies comparing hair care products
Spanish Comparative

Comparative adjectives compare and contrast two things. In Spanish, comparisons of inequality exist to talk about unequal relationships and comparisons of equality to say that two things are equal to one another.

A young girl is very upset and surprised by the condition of her hair.
Spanish Conditional Perfect Tense

The conditional perfect (condicional compuesto), is a Spanish compound tense. It is used to express possibility in the past i.e. actions the could or would have taken place. We can also express wishes or suppositions about the past.
