Curtido de Repollo- an Easy El Salvadorean Salad Recipe

One aspect of culture that is the tastiest is the cuisine. With Spanish being the official language in 20 countries, you have many different dishes to try. If the recipe is easy enough with accessible ingredients, you might even consider adding some types of cuisine to your own table on a regular basis. Curtido de repollo is a quick side dish you can make to replace your usual salad for any meal. It is a cabbage salad that in includes some of the same ingredients as Cole Slaw. The vegetables are the same. What is different is the seasoning and liquid that you add to the vegetables. If you need a quick salad to go with your meal, give this recipe a try! This particular version is CORE’s variation of a recipe from El Salvador. If you want a truly authentic El Salvadorean dinner experience, you can try your hand at making pupusas as your main dish.

1 package tri-color cole slaw (green cabbage, purple       cabbage, and carrots) from refrigerated salad section

1 medium onion thinly sliced (optional)

1 tsp salt

1.5 tsp oregano

1 tsp cumin

1 tsp cayenne pepper (optional)

1 cup apple cider vinegar or white vinegar

2 tsp olive oil

1. Pour contents of the tri-color cole slaw bag into a              medium bowl and optionally add thinly sliced onion.

2. Add salt, oregano, and cumin to the bowl. Add                  cayenne pepper (optional).

3. Add vinegar and olive oil.

4. Stir until combined. 

5. Make sure to submerge the cole slaw mix in the                vinegar/oil mixture.

6. Serve immediately or refrigerate before serving. 

7. Enjoy!
